Madonna di Campiglio, situated at 1550 meters above sea level in the beautiful valley between the group of the Brenta Dolomites and the glaciers of Adamello and Presanella, tourists was launched in the second half of the last century by a certain Giambattista Righi Strembo. In 1868 he bought for 40,000 florins, the whole substance of the former monastery of Santa Maria di Campiglio belonging to the chapter table of Trento. Instead of crumbling buildings Delvecchio ospiziostretti around a late-medieval church he built the first hotel, loStabilimento Alpine intended to welcome the first visitors to the mountain. Taken in 1875 at his own expense the construction of the road connecting the centers of the Upper Rendena Madonna di Campiglio were needed three hours to go in the carriage. The entrepreneurial adventure of Gianbattista Righi was carried out by Franz Joseph Oesterreicher, owner of the Grand Hotel Trento, who took over the property di Campiglio in 1882. It was said of him that he was the illegitimate son of the emperor of Austria and Hungary, which bore his name, Franz Joseph. He transformed into a refined Madonna di Campiglio disoggiorno for the nobility and the wealthy bourgeoisie Austrian and Central Europe. Among his guests, in 1889 and 1894, was Princess Sissi and Emperor Franz Joseph spent here long days strolling through the woods, reaching the lakes around Campiglio and carefree evenings devoted to waltz and small meetings with their courtiers. The family remained in Oesterreicher Campiglio until 1955, when its properties were gradually purchased mainly from Lombard entrepreneurs who transformed the appearance and facilities of the resort. Already in 1947 the Company was founded Funivie Madonna di Campiglio with the aim of promoting the sport of skiing and thus to promote the location. In 1948 was inaugurated the first plant, a chairlift that linked to Madonna di Campiglio Spinale, were built in the 50s and some of the cable 5 Laghi ski lifts. Today the plant circuit runs along 90 km of slopes with a capacity of over 30,700 people per hour and is expected to link the slopes of Pinzolo (being already active one, skis, Folgarida and Marilleva). The 3-Three race of the World Cup ski among the most prestigious, was born in 1948 from the imagination of Rolly Brands like trio of competitions (slalom, giant and free) and only in later years split up between multiple locations. Madonna di Campiglio today is certainly the number one in the Italian ski resorts and one of the most important in the entire Alpine region: the variety of its mountain environment provides the opportunity to travel in the winter, skis, countless kilometers of slopes up to 2600 meters, always different levels of difficulty, for the exciting views on the groups of the Brenta Dolomites and the Adamello and Presanella. Madonna di Campiglio, with its 1550 meters high, is the only one that provides skiers downhill to spend a day on the snow from the center of the country and coming back without taking off your skis. The charm of Madonna di Campiglio is not barred to anyone: it is a charm that is revealed little by little, experiencing the silence of nature, immersing himself in the sparkle of snow crystals. The adventure begins inserting cross-country skis or snowshoes – here are called snowshoes – or facing the challenge of fulfilling a hike with ski mountaineering.
